Goderich Celtic College
August 2 to 6, 2010
A tremendous diversity of Celtic musical, dance and craft art experiences is unmatched anywhere in the world.
Enrollment begins May 2010
HOW DO I ENROL? To enroll, please send a chegue made out to “CELTIC COLLEGE”, along with your completed course selection sheet. To use a credit card, please telephone 519 524 8221. To enroll online, please visit www.celticfestival.ca Please note that many courses have limited enrolment and are filled as we receive registration and payment.
WHAT IS THE DAILY COLLEGE SCHEDULE? The college takes place over five days from Monday, August 2nd to Friday, August 6th, with student performances on Friday, Aug. 6th at the Celtic Festival. Each day is divided into four 80 minute classes. Students are permitted to take classes in each of the four time slots from Monday to Thursday. All music classes are incremental – that is students follow the same four classes each of the four days of the classes. Some of the Craft Art courses are either full or half day classes. Please read class descriptions carefully when enrolling.
FOR WHOM IS THE COLLEGE INTENDED? The college is for everyone from absolute beginners to advanced musicians and craft artists. The only stipulation is that you must be high school age or older. The college is meant to be an opportunity for adults to study informally with national and international exponents of their art. Younger participants are encouraged to participate in the Celtic Kids Day Camp held at nearby St. Mary’s Separate School.
WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS? Celtic Kids Day Camp offers the opportunity for children who are too young to attend the Celtic College to have a fun and informative week. Its hours are slightly longer than the Celtic College to allow parents to drop off their children, attend the Celtic College, and return to pick them up. The lunch hours are the same. There are three streams divided by age: 4 to 6, 7 to 9, 10 to 12. Students experience song, tinwhistle, mandolin, guitar, fiddle, harp, percussion, dance, drama, craft art and recreation. Some teachers from the Celtic College will be sharing their expertise at Celtic Kids, along with the regular staff. To enroll, please visit this site again in May 2010 and complete the enclosed Celtic Kids form and send a cheque made out to “CELTIC COLLEGE”
WHEN AND WHERE IS REGISTRATION? Registration takes place Sunday, Aug. 8th from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Livery Theatre in Goderich, 35 South Street in Goderich, just behind the Bedford Hotel. Our traditional welcome ceili follows registration and is open to all students.
WHAT IS THE EVENING SCHEDULE? Every evening Teacher Concerts are held at the Livery followed by multiple sessions at every level, a song circle and ceili dances. Come meet your fellow students but be warned that these evenings are highly addictive.
HOW DO I GET A TICKET TO THE CELTIC ROOTS FESTIVAL? For a weekend pass, please add $30.00 if you are a student at the Celtic College. Other adult tickets may be ordered at the same time but at the regular advertised rates.
WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME? Please check the recommended guide for determining levels. Some switching of classes is allowed. Please check with the main desk before switching classes!
